As an engineering student you must have
heard terms 1SO: 9001, QS: 9000 more than often. During your
industrial visits also you might have taken a close look
at the quality certification of Host Company hanged at prominent
positions throughout the plant. Led by the Japanese companies
all over the world quality has become the buzzword. Every
organization was found striving to get optimum possible quality
for their products. Big multinational companies implemented
various quality initiatives in their factories and expected
their vendors/suppliers to follow suite as they are treated
as an extended facility of buying company. These companies
being spread globally and vendors located in all the prominent
industrialized part of the world including India insisted
on adopting various systems and standards. To ensure the
quality product the entire supply chain has to be quality
conscious at every stage of value addition so this quality
drive pierced through the bottom most supplier of this value
chain.(Supplier of the supplier of the supplier)
This widespread quality consciousness sprung up demand for agencies providing
quality systems certification eg. IQRS, STQF, etc. This certification being the
long process involving study, suggestions, approvals, giving feedback, assessing
quality for any company required skilled professionals. A lot of documentation
work and analytical approach attracted engineers as they are required to study
the existing setup of Client Company with minute details being recorded. Various
developments, their relations, production practices and chain of processes are
studied to come up with standardized system or way of work. The prime objective
of such quality certifications is to ensure quality products each time every
time they are manufactured, processed and delivered irrespective of the personal
skills and lacunas. The quality system put in place a standard set of instructions
to be followed without fail for every activity that is carried out in the plant.
This way every employee was made to follow standard way of work
.
Once the quality system is implemented the quality agency has to check that system
being followed properly. Periodical audits are conducted to ensure the effectiveness
and progress towards successful implementation of the system. These audits are
conducted by professionals on regular basis and need to travel a lot. Great eye
for details, analytical ability are the prerequisites for this job.
