conducts Post-Graduate programmes listed below.
Research Areas : The institute has research centers focusing
on different aspects of Information Technology (IT) and its
applications. The areas of research include Natural Language
Processing, Speech Processing, Image Processing, Computer Vision & Graphics,
Signal Processing, Wireless Communication, VLSI and Embedded
Systems, Database Systems, Data Mining, Robotics, Networking,
Multi-agent Systems, Cryptography & Netwok Security, Ad
hoc Networks, Algorithms, Theoretical Computer Science, Bioinformatics,
Building Sciences, Earthquake Engineering, Computational Linguistics,

Programmes :
- M.Tech
: an
advanced course driven, two-year programme with opportunities
for project work in the final
semester. Mtech
in Computational Linguistics is research driven
and thesis forms a major component of the program.
- Mphil
(Computational Linguistics only) / MS by Research
: A research driven
masters programme open to students with
an
advanced background in relevant areas. A research
thesis is central to this programme. Expected
duration is 2 years.
- PG
Diploma in Computational Linguistics : This
is 1-year programme that gives students an opportunity
to learn
the basics of the
subject and an experience in developing linguistic
resources for natural language processing.
- PhD
: The programme requires course work and clearing
of breadth
and depth qualifiers followed by thesis
work. Approximate
duration
of this programme is 3 to 5 years.
Admission
Procedure : Admission to PG programmes will be
on the basis of the performance at the Post-Graduate And
PhD Entrance Examination (PGEE ) and an interview to be held
at Hyderabad. However, for the research programmes i.e.,
Ph.D. and M.S. by Research programmes, exceptional candidates
may be called directly for the interview on the basis of
their application.
How to Apply : All applications should be made through
the Post Graduate Admissions Portal. Applications can apply
for one or more programmes in the same form by indicating
choices. The application fee is Rs.800/- for one programme
and Rs.50/- extra for each additional programme applied
for. Application fee in the form of a demand draft drawn
in favour of IIIT, Hyderabad must reach the Chairman, PG
Admissions before stipulated Date.
Note: application will be considered valid only after the
receipt of application fee.
Post-Graduate
Entrance Examination (PGEE ) : An all-India
examination to test the preparedness of the applicants is
held in May . The examination is held at Hyderabad and a
number of major cities in the country depending on the number
of applicants from each region. The entrance examination
will consist of two papers. Paper I test the general aptitude
of the candidate and will consist of objective questions
from Mathematics, Programming, and Logical Reasoning. Paper
II is the Subject Paper, which tests the candidate's subject
knowledge.
Course
Fees & Financial Aid : The tuition fee for all
post-graduate programmes is Rs.50, 000/- per semester. Full
financial support including tuition and stipend is available
for MS by Research and PhD students in the form of teaching
or research assistantships. We expect to provide financial
assistance to all students during their research work. Partial
financial support, in the form of teaching assistantships,
is available for the Mtech students during their second year.
This will be based on their academic performance. Full financial
support is available for all students admitted to the Mtech,
Mphill & PG Diploma program in Computational Linguistics.

Research
Exchange Programme
Brilliant young students are invited to apply for the Research
Exchange PhD programme at the institute. Students admitted
to this programme will spend equal time shared between
IIIT, Hyderabad and a partner research group at a world-class
University, Financial support is guaranteed at both ends.
This programme, involving several students, is already
operative with selected research groups at CMU, UPenn,
University of Illinois, etc. For admission into this programme,
applicants to the PhD Programme of the institute need to
select the Research Exchange option on the portal.
The Admission to the following programmes is not through
PGET 2 year Mphill in Computational Linguistics PG Diploma
in Computational Linguistics 4 yr Post Bsc. Dual Degree (B.Tech
CSE and MS by research in Computational Natural Sciences)
MA in Linguistics or related areas MA or Mphil inLinguistics,
Languages or related areas BSc. (PCM) with Honours (Major)
in Physics / Chemistry Details will be available on website.
Note : There will be Separate Exam for Language & Linguistics
background applicants to enter into the Computational Linguistics
Programmes.
